Over the next two decades, they will supply a wealth of precise measurements of processes involving the Higgs and electroweak gauge bosons, which may provide clues to the origin of the Higgs potential and in particular, to the origin of the weak scale. How do we interpret these measurements? We will describe a model-independent approach, based on just the physical degrees of freedom, namely, the known particles, in terms of amplitudes.

Weekly Seminar Quantum Center :" Emerging Quantum Phenomena in Nonlinear Nanophotonics: Toward New Regimes of Light-Matter Interactions"

- Lecturer: Eran Lustig, Stanford UniversityAbstract:Nanophotonics is at the forefront of research and development in scalable quantum technologies,ranging from quantum sensing to quantum computing. Traditionally, inherently weak photon-photonand photon-atom interactions in dielectric materials pose significant challenges to fully exploiting the potential of these platforms. However, recent advances in the fabrication of nonlinear micro-resonators with nanometric features have allowed for the enhancement of all-optical interactions,necessitating new approaches to generating, controlling, and measuring quantum light.In this seminar, I will delve into unexplored regimes at the intersection of nonlinear and quantumoptics. I will begin by showcasing our latest advancements in developing integrated microresonatorsin thin-film 4H-Silicon Carbide. This innovation enables nonlinear photonics, quantum optics, andcollective quantum emitter excitations on the same platform. Following this, I will present ourexperimental demonstration of quadrature lattices of the quantum vacuum. This work shows howpulses that spontaneously emerge in microresonators can generate lattice dynamics of the quantumvacuum and how we can exert control over these dynamics.I will then discuss the broader implications of our findings, including enhanced interactions withquantum emitters, and ultrafast nonlinear quantum nanophotonics, which enable nonlinear interactions at the single photon level. These outcomes pave the way toward new regimes of light-matter interactions that are enabled on scalable photonic microchips, with transformativeimplications for fundamental physics and quantum applications.

- Title: Destructive stellar collisions in galactic nucleiSpeaker: Shmuel Balberg (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem)Abstract: The centers of galaxies host both a supermassive black hole (SMBH) and a dense stellar cluster. Physical collisions between stars in such an environment can involve sufficiently high velocities so that the colliding stars are completely destroyed. Destructive collisions (DCs) are therefore inevitable, but at what rate? How do they compare, and possibly compete, with other stellar destruction mechanisms that are unique to galactic nuclei? It appears that stars captured through tidal disruption of binaries by the SMBH hold the key to the DC rate, which should be astrophysically significant, and may even be comparable to that of tidal disruption events (TDEs). Given the total energy, mass and location of DCs, the primary flare that follows them should also be similar to that of TDEs, as streams of the disrupted gas shock each other while flowing toward the central black hole. Some potential differences from TDEs may, however, allow to observationally identify DCs as a separate subclass of bright nuclear transients.
